It has been very apparent to everyone that there has been explosive growth in social networking sites such as FaceBook and MySpace. In fact, studies have shown a 350%+ growth in MySpace alone in the past year.

While this has been taken negatively by doomsayers who predict the worst for children who have access to these networks, it is seen as very positive not only by social scientists (who marvel at this growing technology-savvy social beings) but by online marketers who have found a goldmine for the products and services they offer.

While being a fun endeavor, using these social networking sites, the online marketers also are able to meet business contacts, new customers, old friends and even meeting new friends interested in the same things as they are. All the while, making a good profit on the side.

While Facebook has made impressive strides to compete with the lightning growth of MySpace, it still has a way to go to take down the giant. However, most observers agree that Facebook’s more controlled and deliberate growth will be an asset to them in the future. Could there be another social site that may controlled growth plan of it’s own? Could there be one looking to specialize in a certain niche like business owners and online marketers.

While it is agreed that Google’s bazillion(just kidding, closer to a billion) dollar investment in MySpace shows that the guys with the huge heads and even the super geniuses they have working for them see something good inside social networking sites.

As of December 18th, 2007 MySpace has over 300 million registered accounts and attracts aver 200,000 new accounts on a daily basis. The effectiveness of MySpace as an advertising medium is highlighted by the use of it by 2008 US Presidential hopefuls.

Even though it seems like there is no limit to the growth of sites like Youtube and MySpace, it is always good to keep your eyes open for other start-ups that could just be a month or two away from the explosive growth of the other giants in the industry. More focused networking sites like GibLink could become the desired areas for likeminded people to gather and communicate.

While the internet remains a vast uncharted region that seems to have no boundaries in regards to the amount of money that can be potentially made, it is refreshing to see an company, like GibLink, that has the same potential as any of the giants, give back to the members that have made it what it is and what it will be in the future.
