With the vast number of blogs in cyber space, it can sometimes be difficult to not only keep track of your friends’ blogs, but also remember to make sure your own gets visited often. Driving traffic to your blog is what will make you a more prominent and therefore remembered part of what has been dubbed ‘the blogosphere’.

1) Write Well and Frequently

Building your blog’s reputation and audience is an important aspect of this endeavor. Simply writing without purpose is going to be a positive experience for you. When sharing information or content on your blog you want to keep it useful. This is one step to keeping your readers coming back for more. Besides good content, another very important point to follow when building your blog is properly written information. Bad sentence structure or frequent spelling mistakes may pass on occasion however may become tedious for your readers. No matter how useful your information is, they may opt out and look elsewhere to suit their needs.

Frequent updates with that all-important useful content will also increase the number of opportunities you have for this content to be notice by various search engines such as Yahoo! or Google.

2) Submissions to Search Engines

Most search engines have an area which will say something along the lines of “Submit Link” (or something similar, depending on the search engine). By submitting your URL to these search engines, your blog’s existence will be made known to them. As a result, those same search engines will grab on while crawling the internet looking for content, bringing your information along to other people’s searches.

One thing requiring some emphasis however is there is no guarantee you will find your blog pages at the top of any search lists screen. Just knowing you have that chance of being picked up and passed to others by a search engine is benefit enough

3) Blogrolls as Tools

Add links to the various sites you like or enjoy visiting to your blogroll. The owner of these blogs will notice, and are not only likely to visit your blog themselves but may add you to their blogroll in return. This is a very easy way to get news of your blog out to many people. The goal with this is having someone follow the link from someone else’s blogroll. Once they are there, they may find they enjoy your content which then turns them into the loyalist of readers.

4) RSS Feeds for Your Blog

By adding the option for your blog readers to receive notification by RSS feed, they will not only be able to read your blog, but also know when new content has been published. This could potentially lead to them referring someone else rather quickly to your blog; especially if the topic is of importance to someone they know. Adding an RSS button to your blog site is normally as easy as a click or two of your mouse to potentially gain more traffic.

5) Don’t Play the Waiting Game

If you are overly shy or tend to lurk behind the scenes, blogs probably aren’t the best place to be hanging out for you. Blogging success relies a great deal on how ready and able you are to communicate on various comments left not only on your blog, but on those of others. Networking is the best way for you to become noticed as a prominent online figure. Say hi, ask questions or give your opinion on a current conversation while introducing yourself. The traffic you want and need is not going make itself to your blog by itself. Let everyone know you are there by speaking up and getting yourself noticed.

It’s in no way unheard of for people to be a little dubious or slightly confused when it comes to exactly what blogging can do for you. Not only is using a blog quite easy to do, it’s also a fantastic way to bring people to you without the hassle of a bunch of phone calls, or needing to run to the copy shop for 1000 banners to distribute. With a small bit of typing, a click of a mouse to publish and some time spent surfing around to check out the blogs of others, not only will you see what we’re talking about, but you may just find a bit of information you yourself were looking for.
